**Chairman of EFCC Vows to Resign if Yahaya Bello is Not Prosecuted**

In a bold stance against corruption, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has made a resolute declaration: he will resign if former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, escapes prosecution for alleged financial crimes.

The EFCC is actively pursuing Bello on 19 counts related to money laundering and misappropriation of public funds totaling N80.2 billion.

Olukoyede, speaking during an interactive session with media executives in Abuja, minced no words: “If I do not personally oversee the completion of the investigation regarding Yahaya Bello, I will tender my resignation as the EFCC Chair.”

His determination doesn’t stop there. Olukoyede emphasized that any individuals obstructing Bello’s arrest, particularly from his Abuja residence, will face the full force of the law.

The Chairman recounted efforts to summon Bello for questioning, revealing that the former governor resisted, insisting on interrogation in his village instead of at the EFCC office. Olukoyede expressed his willingness to extend a respectful invitation to Bello, yet the former governor declined, citing alleged interference by a senator and a troupe of journalists.

Olukoyede clarified the EFCC’s legal standing in pursuing Bello, stating unequivocally, “We have obeyed the law.” He underscored the agency’s impartiality by citing previous prosecutions of high-profile individuals, including former governors like Willie Obiano and Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The Chairman lamented the potential escalation of conflict during an attempted arrest at Bello’s residence, highlighting the presence of armed personnel and the risk of casualties. Despite the tense situation, Olukoyede reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to upholding justice and accountability.

In a poignant rhetorical question, Olukoyede challenged detractors: “If I can do Obiano, Abdulfatah Ahmed, and Chief Olu Agunloye, my kinsman, why not Yahaya Bello?”

His words carry a resounding message: in the pursuit of justice, no individual, regardless of status or influence, is above the law. As the EFCC continues its mission to combat financial crimes, Olukoyede’s unwavering resolve underscores the agency’s commitment to accountability and integrity.
